Parahydrogen for Hyperpolarized MRI

NVision Quantum Technologies GmbH leverages advances in quantum physics to significantly enhance the sensitivity of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for assessing early patient response to cancer treatment at the metabolic level.

For their Polalis system to work, 13C-pyruvate is activated with parahydrogen before injection into the patient.  Parahydrogen is a particular atomic state of hydrogen where the spins of both atoms are opposite.  This low-energy state is necessary to activate the pyruvate properly.
